What Our Students Say
Jennifer Fouché
(Jessica Jones, "Chicago" on Broadway, SoHo Shakes, Quantico)
"Working with Soho Shakes was a joy before the pandemic forced us all inside and away from our beloved theatre spaces; after the pandemic hit, Soho Shakes became an artistic lifeline. The expertise of Soho Shakes' creative and production teams is matched only by their commitment to professionalism, activism and their collective generosity of spirit. In addition to being the kind of artistic director actors hope to work with, Alex is an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable dialect coach. The passion with which he teaches is both inspiring and infectious. My experiences working with this beautiful company, on stage and virtually, can only be described as feeling as though I'm home.”

"All of their instructors have a unique sense and ability to guide me through my work, to help me connect with the character and the WORDS. I am especially fond of their Action-Based Imaging technique, which is a refreshing and wonderful tool to utilize not only on Shakespeare, but on any classical plays, and even modern scripts. I highly recommend taking Soho Shakes’ classes regardless if you are new to Shakespeare or need some brushing up on your old monologues! "

“Since training with Soho Shakespeare Company, I’ve been employed by some of the biggest and most reputable classical theaters in the country. I’ve had final callbacks for Shakespeare in the Park and national tours. Soho Shakespeare’s educational team is perfect for actors and artists at any point in their journey. After finishing my conservatory training, I was worried I wouldn’t find the right place to continue my exploration of classical texts. Working with Soho Shakespeare has helped me hone the skills necessary to make a career out of classical theatre. Together we delved into Action-Based Imaging, scansion, clarity of text, command of language, voice and speech, and artistry. Whether it be in preparation for an audition or simply to work on a new piece of text in a safe space, Soho Shakes are the first people I reach out to! I highly recommend their services to anyone who loves The Classics.”

I went to SoHo Shakes to prep for my graduate school auditions. Their approach allowed me to grow immensely in the an incredibly short period of time. They created a collaborative environment which allowed me to thrive by finding the strongest and freshest choices in preparation for my auditions and scene work.
I highly recommend reaching out to the company for coaching, whether it be for audition prep, or because you’re ready for a fresh take on the text. You will be pressed to work hard, and by the end of your sessions, you will feel confident for whatever is ahead. The company members of SoHo Shakes love what they do and they bring that warm sense of play to the work, making the best possible environment to grow and kick ass as an artist. These people truly care about their actors.

"It was no secret that by the time I got around to asking Alex to help me prepare for my audition, I had not touched a piece of Shakespeare work in nearly 10 years. For one reason or another I had actively stayed away from the bard since conservatory training. So when the time came to brush off the cobwebs, I knew there was only one place to go. Enter Alex Pepperman and SoHo Shakes. I arrived feeling nervous, embarrassed, and reluctant. I left feeling grateful, proud, and excited! All because of Alex’s coaching session. We worked together, at my own pace, going back to basics and focusing on the script. Alex was encouraging yet pushed me when I needed it.
Putting in the hard work with someone so knowledgeable gave me the extra confidence I needed once I actually stepped into the audition room. All goes to say—I booked the role! 11/10 would recommend SoHo Shakes coaching and I will be back!"

I had such a wonderful and enlightening time during my coaching session with Soho Shakespeare Company. I brought in a monologue which I felt lost in, and they really brought me to a greater understanding of the text and created a safe/comfortable environment to take risks in and improve my skills. I highly recommend Soho Shakes, and thank you to the team, for being there for all artists!

"Both tough and lighthearted, you will feel their passion, drive, and desire to help you create your most organic work. It is obvious that this is not just a job for them. The dedication with which they work is a testament to the concentrations of the stage actors I admire most."

“Working with Soho Shakes was a liberating and illuminating experience! The folks at
Soho Shakes use techniques that unfold the works of William Shakespeare in an
attainable and achievable manner. The colors in the speeches that I worked on were
vast and vibrant. This is a great series for those who don’t know Shakespeare
and an awesome brush-up and refresher to the already trained. The folks at Soho
Shakes love Shakespeare… and they’ll make you love him too!”
